It is that time of year again – time for artists from around the country to convene in Bennington for one of the country’s finest wildlife art exhibitions. Artists from coast to coast will be at The Bennington Center for the Arts this weekend as the galleries fill with over eighty-five bronzes, paintings and drawings of animals, domestic and wildlife.
Every year a guest artist is invited to select the show. In the past these jurors have included artists such as Carl Brenders, Bob Kuhn, Morten Solberg, Sandy Scott and Terry Isaac. This year’s show was juried by Rosetta, an internationally recognized sculptor from Colorado. She selected the show from hundreds of pieces submitted by invited artists. She was not given a specific number to select but only asked to pick the best of the best.
Many of the artists that are invited to submit work are members of the Society of Animal Artists, a very selective group, but the show will also include up-and-coming artists with no art affiliations.
Opening events for Art of the Animal Kingdom will take place Saturday, June 14th during which time lectures, a gallery walk and entertainment will take place. Rosetta will be in attendance over the weekend and will give a critique of the work as well as a talk on her collection of work.
“This show was the first exhibition we organized after the opening of the art center so many years ago. It obviously has a special place in our hearts, as do the artists that have supported us since that time,” said Shirley Hutchins, Gallery Director. “ We are incredibly proud that it has become one of the most prestigious shows in the country – one that artists want to be able to list on their resumes.”
Other shows that will be on exhibit this weekend include the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition and The Small Works Show. Artwork in all three shows is for sale.
