Bennington, VT
Wed., November 4 at 7 pm in the Parish Hall at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales church on the corner of Main and Benmont Sts. : the first of a two part book discussion of Pope Francis’ Encyclical will take place. Pope Francis appeals to 'every person on this planet' to acknowledge the urgency of global environmental destruction. Everyone, young and old, religious or secular, who cares about the environment and our role in preserving it, is invited to participate. The follow-up meeting will be held at 7 pm on Wed. November 11 at the Second Congregational Church, UCC located on 115 Hillside St.
In Pope Francis' groundbreaking Encyclical letter, he explores the climate crisis happening to our planet. He thoughtfully and fairly explores the human roots of the crisis, the affect on all living organisms (not just humans), the fact that it disproportionally affects the poor, lines of approach and action, and more. We will study this profound work and discuss ways that we can address the issues in our own communities.
Copies of the Encyclical can be purchased at the Bennington Bookshop, where patrons will receive a 20% book group discount.
